We are pleased to announce that the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire Memorial Scholarship Fund will hold its 18th Annual Reception and Fundraiser on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 6 PM. This year’s reception will be held at RWDSU, steps away from Penn Station at 370 Seventh Avenue, 5th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
The Scholarship Fund’s 2023 honorees are:
Janella T. Hinds, Secretary-Treasurer of the New York City Central Labor Council
Charlene Obernauer, Executive Director of the New York Committee for Occupational Safety & Health
Elizabeth Weiner on behalf of Herbierto “Ed” Vargas
The Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to the children of workers who were killed or permanently disabled as the result of a workplace accident. For the past two decades it has been a charitable initiative of the Injured Workers Bar Association and has also received significant support from the labor movement. Following a hiatus of several years due primarily to COVID, the Fund has reorganized under the leadership of four directors: Robert Grey (President), Brian Mittman (Treasurer), MaryEllen O’Connor (Scholarship Chair) and Aaron Zimmerman, all of whom have held leadership positions in the Bar Association and related organizations and who are committed to making the Fund a meaningful source of scholarship assistance both now and in the future.
We hope that you will consider supporting and/or attending this year’s event as we work to increase the Scholarship Fund’s visibility to the labor movement and to increase both the number of scholarship applicants and the amount of financial assistance the Fund is able to provide.
